Review I watched this as a young twenty something when it first aired back in 1987 and had always harboured very fond views of it . I purchased the DVD with some trepidation worried that my memory may have oversold it to me and for the first episode and a half the slow pace (by today's standards)left me slightly deflated. However the series then hit its stride and the belly laughs came thick and fast mixed with moments of real sadness and beautiful poignancy. Some of the physical comedy in particular had tears of laughter rolling down my cheeks. Volcanic eruptions of anger from the various band members produce the best moments. The Majestics are a band that are ever only one barbed comment away from World War Three. All the actors are on the top of their game but special mention to Maurice Roeves as Vinny (more the fire man than the iron man of Scottish rock!) who comes up with the mother of all cataclysmic breakdowns at the end.Oh and Emma Thompson deserves praise for mastering a perfect Glasgow accent and looking s
Review i have just finished watching this and all i can say it was worth the wait.richard wilson has never ever been better than here as the most devious pop manager to draw breathe, robbie coltrane was born to play the part of danny mc glone and play it he does, emma thompson is faboulus as suzi kettles.i cannot think of any thing to say bad about it other than why did it take so long to be released, get this sit back and enjoy.Tutti Frutti [DVD] [1987]
Review Been waiting for this for so long and it didn't disappoint. Up there with I, Claudius and Boys from the Blackstuff, one of the absolute classic TV productions of all time, and it was even better than I remembered.
Review I also had fond memories of this, and watching it again after so long was a pure joy,all the cast were brilliant and it would be churlish to pick the best, the writing was second to none, funny poignant witty its so hard to describe perfection, welcome back The Majestics you were superb
Review Have waited since 1987 for this to be released, finally major excitement!!!
My husband and I had a tutti frutti saturday the day it arrived put it on late afternoon and had to watch it back to back. John Byrne is a genius, this is pure glaswegian at its best, gallows humour, pathos, sarcasim, quickfire wit and affectionate banter. But the character layers are deep and intricate all interwoven together to make some of the best television ever made.
Watch out for the "sprouts" line it mad me cry with laughter as did many moments!! Please buy it!!
