A really excellent drama.A real Oscar worthy performance by Kate Winslet, and by all the other actors.
David Kross, the teenager, was brilliant in what must have been a difficult role for him.Ralph Fiennes was excellent as usual.
I havent read the book but the film was a very good and intense, thought provoking drama. You dont get many good ones like this today.
There were a lot of sex scenes in it but it was necessary for the story. We must all be getting used to seeing Kate without clothes by now.Be careful who you watch it with. Highly recommended. |

The Reader became famous thanks to Ms. Winslet being up for a million Oscars.
It is without doubt an intriguing story and one that is morally confusing and this is probably one of its strongest points.
Without giving too much away, we are caused to feel symapethic towards Winslets character inspite of her being involved in war crimes, and also inspite of her choosing to have an affair with a 15-year old.
If you enjoy a good discussion after a film then this is a must-watch. If you want a movie for the purpose of a light-hearted evenings entertainment then this is probably not it.
Worth purchasing because it is one of those movies that can and should be watched more than once in order to draw out the various depths of moral confusion and ambiguity that the film touches. |

This is a superb film which reveals how early experiences affect someones life. How shame, (in this case illiteracy), causes a woman to suffer a greater unjustified punishment. The german young man is an incredible actor, and very handsome when he smiles. Open your senses to a story of young love, and dull your judgemental side in regard to historic events, and you will enjoy a good film. |

Enjoyed this film immensely. Well worth buying and probably the best film I have seen this year. |
